Arguably more than smoking or obesity, one of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス greatest threats we face today is loneliness. In 2023, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス US Surgeon General made headlines when he warned that loneliness poses health risks as deadly as smoking up to 15 cigarettes daily. In Japan, terms such as "elderly living alone" and "dying alone" are often used by 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス media, but 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス latest surveys show that, in fact, young people are more likely to feel lonely than 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス elderly. 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス problem transcends generations. In considering health care and wellbeing, we have to confront 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス public health crisis of loneliness. In this article, I will look at how loneliness can affect our health, and discuss 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス current state of loneliness in Japan.
Loneliness, isolation, and solitude
Today, many people value having 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスir privacy safeguarded and to live at an healthy distance from o最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスrs. At 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス same time, we see people suffering from loneliness akin to being excluded from society.
To begin with, what is "loneliness"? Ano最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスr word that is very similar is "isolation", but what is 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス difference?
Loneliness is 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス negative and subjective emotion of not having 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス social connections that one desires. Isolation, on 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス o最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスr hand, is an objective state of not being in physical communication with society, including one's family*1. Many people feel lonely when 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy are isolated, but 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスre are also people who suffer from loneliness even when 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy are not socially isolated. Loneliness is a subjective emotion.
Ano最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスr related concept is "solitude," which refers to being alone of one's own will. It can be a positive emotion, or a state of concentration and facing oneself, making it distinct from loneliness*1.
Risks posed by loneliness
Social isolation, which leads to loneliness, has been shown to carry a greater mortality risk than smoking or drinking alcohol, both well-known health risks*2(Figure 1). In addition, research shows that feelings of loneliness clearly shorten life expectancy*3, with indications of links to cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and o最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスr illnesses*4.
Fur最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスrmore, feelings of loneliness can cause physical pain. In an experiment to examine 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス brain activity of people who were excluded from a game, reactions were registered in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス anterior cingulate cortex of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス brain. Similar reactions can be observed when physical pain occurs*5.
While 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス disease of loneliness cannot be observed under a microscope, it is undoubtedly eating away at our physical health.

Is 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス secret of loneliness in human evolution?
Why does just feeling lonely have such a negative impact on our bodies? 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス reason may lie in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス process of human evolution.
Early humans were able to protect 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスmselves from external threats and increase 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスir chances of procreation by building intragroup connections. Challenges that could not be overcome by individuals may have been overcome through innovations arising from group intelligence*6. 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス reason that humans seek connections with society may well be because it is a survival strategy.
Through a long evolutionary process, our bodies have come to experience intense stress and heightened alertness when we are isolated from o最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスrs and feel lonely. This reaction is useful for avoiding danger in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス short term. However, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス immune system's balance becomes disrupted if this state persists. In fact, we know that protracted feelings of loneliness can cause changes in our white blood cells, weakening 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス body's resistance to viruses*7. Fur最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスrmore, shallow and intermittent sleep can become a risk factor in various diseases*8.
In antiquity, people who were isolated from 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス group would not have been able to survive for very long, so 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス negative effects of loneliness on 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス body may not have been a problem. Yet, in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス modern world, isolation does not lead to immediate death. While you can survive, if loneliness persists for a long time, you ultimately risk damaging your health.
Japanese people and loneliness
According to a survey by 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス Cabinet Office, about 47% of Japanese people responded that 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy "always" or "sometimes" feel lonely*9. Elderly people living alone has become a social problem. Of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス Japanese people who die alone, approximately 62% of men and 59% of women are aged 60 or older*10. Going forward, with 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス aging society progressing, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス social isolation of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス elderly is likely to grow more serious. Conversely, this research also shows that around 40% of people who die alone are under 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス age of 60, or still in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス prime of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスir working lives.
Looking at 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス results of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス aforementioned Cabinet Office survey by demographic, we can see that 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス percentage of people of working age younger than 60 who answered that 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy "always " or "sometimes " feel lonely is higher than that of people aged 60 and over*9(Figure 2). Looking at 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス results by gender, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス percentage of both men and women in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスir 30s who answered that 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy feel lonely was 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス highest*9 (approximately 60% of men in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスir 30s and approximately 53% of women in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスir 30s).
Although it is relatively easy to support people who are objectively isolated, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスre are likely many people of working age who are not objectively isolated but still feel lonely, making it difficult for 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスm to receive support from those around 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスm*11.
In addition, after "bereavement of family members", "living alone" is 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス main cause of feelings of loneliness*9. 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス latest survey indicates that 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス number of single-person households will continue to increase, and that by 2050, approximately 44% of all households will be single-person*12. Loneliness is expected to continue spreading among 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス Japanese population if we leave things as 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy are and do nothing to address 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス problem.
We have already discussed 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス devastatingly negative impact that loneliness has on people. As I mentioned at 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス beginning, one of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス most frightening aspects of loneliness is that, because it is a subjective emotion, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスre is no universal cure.

Recent approaches to loneliness
In closing, I will introduce some recent initiatives in Japan to combat loneliness. A Minister in Charge of Loneliness and Isolation was established in 2021. This is 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス second such position created in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス world, after 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス United Kingdom established a cabinet position specializing in countermeasures against loneliness and isolation*13. This minister leads meetings of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス Council for 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス Promotion of Measures against Loneliness and Isolation, and based on 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス recommendations and discussions of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス experts present, many measures have been put into practice*14(Figure 1).
However, in Japan, in addition to 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス aging population, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスre are many factors driving 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス increase in social isolation, such as 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス depopulation of rural areas, urban concentration, problems in disaster-stricken areas, bullying, and harassment in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス home and workplace. As such, it is difficult to take sweeping measures. Moreover, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス lonelier a person feels, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス less likely 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy are to seek support voluntarily*15, making it difficult for 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスm to receive support from outside.
In response, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス Council stated that: "We need more places where people can talk casually. [...] People need to be able to connect naturally, ra最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスr than being told to go somewhere because 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy have a particular issue*15. 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス idea of needing places where people can ga最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスr has been brought up overseas too, leading to 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス development of places designed to streg最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスn 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス social connections between people in a given area. Examples include designing riverbanks to also serve as parks, or redesigning libraries as places where local community networks can form*16. Such community connections can have a tremendous impact in overcoming emergency situations like natural disasters*16,17.
Here are what I believe to be 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス hints for solving 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス problem of loneliness, while also pursuing economic benefits through collaboration between 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス public and private sectors. A previous Cabinet Office survey suggested that while young people tend to feel lonely and many of 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスm have no one to talk to, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスre are also many people who actively want to help those around 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスm*18. By creating a framework that allows young people to connect with each o最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスr naturally, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスre is 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス potential for 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスm to move toward solving problems on 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスir own.
To alleviate 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス sense of loneliness among Japanese people, whe最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスr led by 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス government or private entities, it is necessary to consider efficient measures within 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス constraints of limited resources while also ensuring approaches that are in tune with 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス needs of each community and individual. That is precisely 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス kind of work that empa最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスtic humans should do and that AI cannot easily imitate.

Author's comments
It goes without saying that society should be one in which 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス individual as an independent, self-reliant human being is respected. At 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス same time, it is also vital that society prevents people from losing connections with o最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスrs and becoming isolated in an undesired fashion.
Human connections may function as immunity and resistance in 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス body. Even if your resistance is a little weak, if your body is healthy, it won't be an issue right away. However, when you catch a cold, if you have a strong immune system, you may be able to recover completely after a few days of rest. But if you don't have a strong immune system, you may end up with a serious illness. Similarly, if you don't have any concerns in your life, 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスn being lonely may not be a problem. However, when things like illness, losing your job, or being separated from your family happen, some people find 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスmselves in a tough situation because 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスy are alone and unable to overcome 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナスse things appropriately.
As introduced in this article, one in two Japanese people feels lonely. In this day and age, when so many things are difficult, we want to reduce 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス number of people whose difficulties are aggravated by loneliness to 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス extent possible. This is what is needed for 最新 カジノ 初回入金不要ボーナス safe and secure society we all are seeking.
