カジノ ボーナスne Group has developed unique risk solutions based on the risk management know-how and data accumulated through its insurance and related businesses.

In November 2023, the group established カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility Co., Ltd., focusing on mobility, and カジノ ボーナスne Resilience, focusing on disaster prevention and mitigation, as two new companies dedicated to working to solve social issues.

To discuss these new strategic initiatives, Hidemi Harada, President and Representative Director of カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility and Executive Vice President of カジノ ボーナスne Resilience, Naoto Seki, who is in charge of business development of カジノ ボーナスne Resilience, and Riku Kamei, Product Manager of カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility, gathered for a roundtable discussion.

In this article, we delve into the initiatives of カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility and provide insight from our interview, focusing on their thoughts and prospects for the company's new solution business.

How was カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility established?

Harada:

In recent years, issues related to mobility have diversified and deepened beyond accident prevention and safe driving, such as reduced transportation capacity due to the decline in the number of commercial drivers, vehicle management, labor and health management of drivers, and responses to decarbonization and autonomous driving, as symbolized by the “2024 problem*1”.

Commercial drivers across Japan are facing an overtime cap that would limit them to 960 hours a year as part of the government’s work-style reforms, resulting a series of predicted logistical issues such as potential disruption to delivery services and a decrease in delivery capacity, amid a simultaneous inability to attract young, new workers into the trucking industry.

Since its founding in 1879, the カジノ ボーナスne Group has been working with the purpose of "protecting our customers and society in times of need" to address social issues that evolve in each era. In order to support our customers who are facing diversifying and expanding challenges in today's society, we are focusing not only on the insurance sector but also on the solutions business. By doing so, we aim to evolve into an entity that can not only protect the customers and society "in times of need" but also support them at all times.

Specifically, we have selected the mobility domain as one of our new solution businesses. In addition to the social issues, we have been supporting the mobility industry for more than 100 years since カジノ ボーナスne & Nichido provided Japan's first automobile insurance in 1914. We established カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility to provide high-value-added services that contribute to solving social and customer issues by maximizing the know-how and technology we have gained through our business.

In addition, the mobility market is expected to exceed 700 billion yen by 2030. By addressing this domain, we will increase our company's social value while also increasing its economic value.

Kamei:

In order to solve the challenges facing the logistics industry, we feel that it is necessary not only to digitize traditional operations but also to transform the industry using technology and data.

カジノ ボーナスne Group has been working on automobile insurance with drive recorders, traffic accident reduction support services using AI, and visualization of safe driving using one of the largest accident databases in Japan.

Considering this background, カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility aims to create more advanced value by bringing together existing data and expertise across the Group. It also plans to incorporate future challenges and solutions, all in collaboration with the traditional insurance sector.

Please tell us about your unique strengths and specific business activities.

Harada:

Social issues related to mobility include not only commercial drivers and vehicle managers. In the transportation business, there is a complex intertwining of shippers, a wide variety of cargo and delivery methods, and consumer needs. In addition, about 90% of all transportation companies in Japan are small to medium-sized enterprises. The hurdles for these companies to achieve the same level of business sophistication as large companies are extremely high, and the industry is also in a situation where horizontal cooperation across company boundaries is difficult to achieve.

Taking this situation into account, it is the role that カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility can play to be able to maintain a neutral distribution network between operators without belonging to the logistics industry. Taking advantage of the three strengths described below, we will build a sustainable business cycle by collaborating with various mobility-related players across industries.

Our first strength lies in leveraging the カジノ ボーナスne Group's extensive data and know-how. For example, カジノ ボーナスne Nichido provides crucial data on vehicles, people, and goods, while カジノ ボーナスne dR offers risk consulting services that contribute to reducing accidents. With カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility playing a central role in Group collaboration, we will develop and provide mobility solutions in a more agile manner.

Second, we will utilize advanced technologies and collaborate with partners in different industries. カジノ ボーナスne Group has a system in place that enables us to utilize our knowledge not only in Japan but also globally. In addition, we will create synergies that the カジノ ボーナスne Group alone cannot create through active collaboration and cooperation with unique partners from different industries.

The third is the use of diverse customer contacts that lead to the discovery of issues. To date, the カジノ ボーナスne Group has built strong relationships with a wide range of customers, including private companies and local governments that handle vehicles, cargo, and warehouses. We will utilize these customer touch points to identify critical issues facing companies and municipalities accurately and quickly and apply them to the development of new solutions.

Kamei:

カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility uses a unique approach to optimize mobility and logistics.

We plan to initially offer services to individual companies with immediate needs. Our goal is to then expand our business, facilitating the matching of transit transport and consolidation across companies and industries. Additionally, we aim to enhance logistics efficiency through demand forecasting.

As our most recent initiative, we will provide a fleet management service "MIMAMO DRIVE" in cooperation with カジノ ボーナスne & Nichido in April 2024. We utilize the accident reduction and accident data analysis know-how of the カジノ ボーナスne Group.

We are also currently considering the provision of labor management services, for which there is an urgent need to respond to the “2024 problem”.

What is your vision for the future?

Harada:

There are other companies working on mobility solutions, but our company's unique position and strengths allow us to both improve safety and control costs.

We recognize that the essence of the challenge in this domain is not to improve the efficiency of transportation, but to eliminate the waste of transportation, as in the case of achieving the matching of transit transportation and consolidation mentioned earlier. It is a very challenging endeavor, but we hope that when you look back a few years from now, we can all think that カジノ ボーナスne Smart Mobility has helped eliminate the waste of transportation in society as a whole.

To that end, we believe that the first step is to make sure that the solutions we offer are utilized by various businesses.

Kamei:

As a product manager, I have visited many small and medium-sized enterprises and had many conversations with business owners and people who work there. They are all working with the desire to improve the company, the industry, and society. I would like to support the growth of the industry as a whole by working with companies that share these aspirations.

There is still room for DX promotion in the logistics industry. When we think of product "design," we often imagine that we will create a superficial design or product itself to provide for the enterprise. However, in dealing with small and medium-sized enterprises, we believe that it is important not to "launch and leave", but to "work hard together." We would like to firmly share the vision of the future that lies beyond the use of our services and persevere with our customers.

Harada:

Yes, let's stay close to the customers in front of us and move steadily, step by step, toward the realization of a better society.
